About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential renewable energy technology organization seeking a Senior EV Field Service Engineer to join their UK operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrotechnical professional to become one of the early specialists supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the United Kingdom. The role offers significant scope for career growth and the potential to help build a local engineering team.
This position is based in Milton Keynes and requires up to 60% travel, with approximately three days per week spent on customer sites throughout the UK.
Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor commissioned EV charging equipment remotely to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact operations
- Diagnose and troubleshoot charger malfunctions, communication problems, and electrical, electronic, or control-system faults
- Resolve communication issues with local inverters, energy meters, onboard controllers, and customer SCADA systems
- Implement proactive maintenance actions including remote reboots, configuration changes, and firmware updates to maximize fleet availability
- Coordinate and execute on-site commissioning activities for new installations, working with installers, electricians, and platform technicians
- Integrate charging infrastructure into customer systems, including local grids, energy management controllers, OCPP backends, and shared-meter configurations
- Lead on-site troubleshooting for complex technical issues and perform component replacements in compliance with electrical safety regulations
- Develop expertise in monitoring and diagnostic tools to support early issue identification and proactive maintenance
- Document recurring quality issues and provide field insights to support continuous product improvement
- Maintain accurate customer, service, and issue records in internal systems
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience in an electrotechnical or electrical engineering field with strong practical troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Genuine interest in green technology and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking and experience using command-line tools for network diagnostics
- Experience with OCPP and Modbus-TCP communication protocols (highly desirable)
- Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams to diagnose system performance and faults
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or professional statistical-analysis software; Linux knowledge is a strong advantage
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical customers
- English proficiency at B2 level or above; additional European languages are advantageous
- Must be based in the United Kingdom with ability to travel extensively across the country
- Occasional international travel for training or troubleshooting may be required
- Existing right to work in the UK is required; visa sponsorship or relocation may be considered for exceptional candidates
