About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential autonomous robotics organization seeking a Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their Board Support team in Munich. This role offers the opportunity to work on a custom embedded Linux distribution powering advanced robotic platforms used for surveillance, reconnaissance, inspection, mapping, and logistics applications.
You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and optimize software components running on embedded hardware, working extensively with C/C++, Python, and Bash codebases.
Responsibilities
- Develop features, resolve bugs, write tests, and optimize performance of software components on a custom embedded Linux distribution
- Add driver support for new peripherals and maintain system services on embedded platforms
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to understand internal and customer use cases
- Propose and implement new software solutions, taking ownership from design through deployment
- Provide expert-level (L3) technical support to customers experiencing technical issues
- Write clear internal documentation and contribute to public-facing knowledge base articles
- Participate in daily stand-ups, release planning, and task prioritization meetings
What We're Looking For
- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years professional experience writing object-oriented C++ and/or Python code
- Extensive experience with embedded architectures, including cross-compilation, debugging, and performance optimization
- Expert Linux skills with deep command line knowledge, resource management, systems services, and networking
- Deep knowledge of Linux kernel, embedded device drivers, device tree configuration, and u-boot
- Experience with Debian/Ubuntu-based systems, systemd, Debian packaging workflows, and complex Docker environments
- Knowledge of OTA update mechanisms (e.g., mender)
- Proficient in networking concepts across all OSI model layers, including hardware interfaces, IP addressing, routing protocols, DNS, and HTTP/HTTPS
- Skilled with network diagnostic tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump
- Basic embedded security knowledge including secure boot, UEFI, and boot chain verification
- Experience with network security protocols (SSL/TLS, VPNs) and securing embedded devices
- Basic electrical engineering experience, including familiarity with schematics and debugging I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN bus communication
- Experience working in agile environments with daily stand-ups and sprint boards
- Product-oriented mindset with eagerness to drive project initiatives forward
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with video streaming and MIPI CSI drivers
- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson platforms and associated BSP packages
- Experience with NXP iMX8 platforms and associated BSP packages
- Previous contributions to open source projects, especially in the Linux ecosystem
- Experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
