Senior Electrical Engineer – Physical Substation

CDM Smith seeks an accomplished Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in physical substation design and operations for our Meers, Comanche County office. This is a full-time position where you'll lead complex electrical infrastructure projects and mentor junior engineering staff.

About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer focused on physical substation systems, you'll take ownership of designing, analyzing, and optimizing electrical substations for utility and industrial clients throughout the region. Your technical expertise will directly influence the reliability and efficiency of critical power infrastructure. Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and engineer substation layouts, electrical systems, and protection schemes according to industry standards and client specifications
• Conduct load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, and coordination studies to ensure system reliability and safety
• Develop technical specifications and design documents for substation equipment, control systems, and SCADA integration
• Lead project teams through all design phases, managing schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables
• Review work performed by junior engineers and provide mentorship to support their professional development
• Coordinate with utility partners, equipment vendors, and field operations to ensure designs are constructible and compliant
• Participate in client meetings and technical presentations to communicate design rationale and engineering solutions

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in electrical substation design or power systems engineering
• Strong knowledge of substation equipment, protection systems, automation, and industry standards including ANSI, IEEE, and NERC
• Hands-on proficiency with electrical design software and power system modeling tools
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams
• Project management experience and proven track record delivering complex technical projects
