About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential consulting organization seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a contract engagement based in the United Kingdom. Our client works across multiple industries, delivering modern data platform solutions to enterprise clients globally. This is a remote, client-facing position where you'll design and implement cloud-native data architectures while contributing to technical leadership and mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable data platforms using modern cloud-native and lakehouse architectures
- Develop and optimize data pipelines using Python, SQL, and Azure-based tools including Data Factory and Synapse Analytics
- Modernize legacy data environments, migrating on-premises solutions to cloud platforms
- Engage directly with clients to conceptualize data solutions aligned to business strategy
- Support pre-sales activities including proof-of-concept deliveries and technical proposals
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers
- Lead technical reviews and contribute to team members' professional development
- Identify automation opportunities and optimize data delivery infrastructure
- Collaborate with stakeholders including executive, product, and analytics teams on data infrastructure requirements
- Drive knowledge sharing through technical documentation and workshops
- Balance billable project work with internal team support responsibilities
What We're Looking For
- 5–8+ years of hands-on data engineering experience
- Demonstrable experience leading end-to-end platform delivery
- Experience architecting enterprise-grade lakehouses and data mesh patterns
- Strong proficiency with Python, PySpark, and SQL
- Expertise in Azure data platform services (Data Factory, Data Lake Storage Gen2, Synapse Analytics, Databricks)
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (lakehouses, pipelines, semantic models, Direct Lake)
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools and DevOps pipelines (Git, Terraform, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
- Experience with streaming technologies (Azure Event Hubs, Stream Analytics, Kafka)
- Knowledge of databases including Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL
- Experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools
- Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams in dynamic consulting environments
- Track record of mentoring engineers and contributing to technical strategy
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field (Master's advantageous)
- One or more certifications: DP-700 (Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer), DP-203 (Azure Data Engineer), Databricks Certified Data Engineer (Associate or Professional)
