Senior Data Engineer – Real time analytics

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing technology company in the customer communications space. Our client operates at scale, serving tens of thousands of users globally with cloud-based analytics and real-time data infrastructure. They are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Analytics & Data Platform team in London.

In this role, you will architect and deliver streaming data solutions that power customer-facing analytics, real-time monitoring, and business intelligence for a global user base. You'll work on high-volume event processing, query optimization, and scalable data pipelines using modern cloud and open-source technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver scalable, low-latency streaming platform solutions for near real-time data processing
• Translate business requirements into optimized data models for big data environments
• Identify and resolve query performance bottlenecks across analytical workloads
• Write clean, production-grade code in Scala, Python, and SQL
• Build and maintain data pipelines sourcing from structured and unstructured data
• Contribute to product and platform performance optimization and monitoring
• Mentor team members through code reviews and knowledge sharing
• Deploy and maintain data systems in production with strong operational discipline

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field
• 3+ years of hands-on experience building near real-time analytics systems
• 5+ years of professional programming experience with modern languages such as Scala, Python, Go, or TypeScript
• Proven track record designing complex data processing pipelines
• Experience with dimensional data modeling (star schema, etc.) in cloud data warehouses
• Strong SQL query optimization skills
• Familiarity with technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Airflow, Redshift, or similar streaming and analytical platforms
• Experience shipping and maintaining production code
• Collaborative mindset with a passion for sharing ideas and continuous learning

Nice to have: Experience with Apache Pinot, AWS Glue, EMR, or event-driven architectures.
