Senior Data Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization in Berlin seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build and operate modern data platforms. In this role, you will develop scalable data architectures that enable analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making across the business.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Data Engineering: Design, develop, and continuously enhance modern data pipelines using Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric
• Data Quality: Ensure high data quality, completeness, and reproducibility; implement efficient incremental data loading processes
• Data Integration: Develop and maintain efficient ETL/ELT processes and API-based data integrations
• Platform Operations: Build robust monitoring, logging, and error-handling frameworks; continuously optimize performance, costs, and data workflows
• Data Architecture: Contribute to building a scalable data architecture including test, staging, and production environments using modern technologies such as CI/CD, Fabric Pipelines, dbt, or Airflow
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Data & Analytics and Data Analysts to provide high-quality data for Power BI dashboards and machine learning models

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks an experienced data professional with the following qualifications:

• Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience building and operating data pipelines or data platforms, ideally at senior level (motivated mid-level candidates are also welcome)
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure Data Services, particularly Data Factory and/or Azure Synapse; experience with Microsoft Fabric is highly desirable
• Excellent proficiency in SQL and Python, especially for ETL/ELT processes and automation
• Experience in data modeling, ideally with Bronze, Silver, and Gold layer architectures
• Knowledge of data quality management, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization
• Proven ability to independently execute technical projects with a structured, solution-oriented approach
• Strong team orientation and enjoyment working in an international environment
• Fluent German or English skills (if German proficiency is below fluent, B1 minimum with very strong English is required)

Beneficial additional skills:

• Experience with incremental loading processes and delta processing
• Data integration experience for Power BI and semantic models
• E-commerce or marketplace platform knowledge
• API-based data integration experience
• CI/CD knowledge using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps
• Interest in machine learning and building data-driven organizations
• Experience with Openbridge

This is an unlimited contract position in Berlin-Lichtenberg with a hybrid work model (2 home-office days per week), flexible hours between 6:00–10:00 AM start time, and 30 vacation days.
