(Senior) Controller / Finance Business Partner (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization experiencing rapid growth across European markets. They need multiple Finance Business Partners to drive financial stewardship during their next expansion phase.

In this role, you will own the financial performance of one or more critical business units, working directly with operational leaders to translate numbers into actionable strategy. You'll move beyond retrospective reporting to proactive financial steering.

• Partner with business unit leadership on financial planning, budget management, and performance tracking
• Monitor KPIs, budgets, and variance analysis; ensure deviations trigger concrete corrective action
• Analyze P&L and contribution margins down to product, channel, market, or cost center level to identify profit levers
• Build forecasts, scenario models, and business cases that transparently show financial impact of strategic choices
• Support annual planning and budget cycles, evolving them into dynamic management tools
• Challenge cost structures for efficiency, scalability, and profitability across the organization
• Develop management dashboards and early-warning systems in collaboration with Finance and Data teams
• Connect operational metrics to financial outcomes, clarifying where the business earns, loses, or should invest capital
• Establish clear targets, benchmarks, and performance indicators for your areas of responsibility
• Support liquidity planning, cash flow steering, and working capital optimization
• Analyze inventory, procurement terms, payment cycles, and capital tied up; improve cash conversion
• Drive automation, standardization, and digitalization of controlling processes
• Collaborate closely with executive leadership, Finance, Accounting, Data, and operational teams

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Business, Finance, Controlling, Economics, or equivalent qualification
• Several years of experience in controlling, FP&A, or Finance Business Partnering roles
• Background in e-commerce, direct-to-consumer, retail, fashion, FMCG, or high-growth environments is particularly valuable
• Deep understanding of P&L mechanics and the operational decisions that drive financial performance
• Fluency with concepts like contribution margin, cash flow, working capital, forecasting, and business case modeling
• Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets with the ability to structure and analyze large datasets
• Experience with BI tools, ERP systems, and automated reporting frameworks is a strong advantage
• Analytical precision combined with the ability to reach clear recommendations quickly
• Comfort challenging assumptions and engaging in constructive financial debate
• Talent for explaining complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders in plain language
• Independent work style, ownership mentality, and comfort in fast-paced, results-driven environments
• Very strong German and good English language skills
