Senior Backend Engineer – Energy Management Platform (all genders)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential client in the renewable energy technology sector. They are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their engineering organization working on cloud-based energy management infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to work on systems that power tens of thousands of connected devices at scale.

The position is remote within Germany, with optional access to offices in Aachen and Munich.

Responsibilities

• Own features end-to-end from requirements analysis through implementation, testing, observability, and continuous iteration
• Identify technical challenges, shape pragmatic solutions, and drive them from concept to production
• Investigate and resolve complex issues across distributed systems and lead incident response efforts
• Continuously improve system stability, performance, and scalability as infrastructure grows
• Maintain well-defined API specifications and clear component documentation
• Drive cross-team architectural decisions and establish scalable integration patterns
• Mentor teammates through code reviews, pairing sessions, and design discussions
• Write clear design documents and RFCs that enable effective decision-making across teams

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Deep backend engineering experience with a proven track record of building, scaling, and operating reliable production systems
• Systems thinking with ability to identify root causes and solve underlying problems
• Strong autonomy in turning ambiguous problems into actionable plans
• Sound technical judgment with consideration for long-term trade-offs
• High ownership mindset from problem statement through production operations
• Focus on clear API design and documentation as core engineering practice
• Production experience with Go and its ecosystem
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized services in production
• Experience with data infrastructure including key-value stores (Redis/Valkey) and analytical databases (ClickHouse or similar)
• Experience with incident response and post-mortems focused on system improvement

Nice to Have:

• Mentorship experience helping engineers grow through code reviews and guidance
• Experience with energy management systems
• Platform/infrastructure engineering background
• Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana)
• Protobuf and gRPC-gateway experience
