(Senior) Backend Engineer

Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential tech company in Munich seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join their distributed engineering organization. In this role, you'll build features that serve millions of users monthly, working on a modern platform that connects people globally.

You'll be part of an international, cross-functional product team, collaborating closely with product managers to architect, implement, and ship new capabilities. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full stack while focusing on backend systems, from database architecture to API design, with hands-on involvement in shaping technical solutions from concept to deployment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that power a high-traffic platform
• Build features end-to-end, working across backend systems, databases, and frontend integration points
• Write comprehensive automated tests including unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Participate in cross-team initiatives focused on architecture improvements, refactoring, and establishing best practices
• Work with large datasets across relational databases, search indexes, and caching layers
• Contribute to code reviews and mentor team members on technical approaches

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience with backend languages such as PHP, Python, or Ruby—our client uses PHP extensively
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript or TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with modern web frameworks like Symfony, Laravel, Next.js, or React
• Demonstrated use of AI-powered tools in your day-to-day engineering workflow
• Solid background in automated testing at multiple levels (unit, functional, acceptance)
• Interest in working with large-scale datasets, relational databases, search technologies, or key-value stores
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
• Self-motivated with strong collaboration abilities and experience working remotely across multiple teams
• Commitment to continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and improving software quality

Technical environment includes: PHP, Symfony, MariaDB, Solr, RabbitMQ, Redis, Memcached, TypeScript, Next.js, React, and comprehensive testing frameworks.

Pay
