Senior API Developer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology consulting organization seeking a Senior API Developer to join their growing engineering team. This is a 100% remote, full-time W2 position based in the United States.

Our client is building the next generation of distributed backend platforms that power mission-critical workloads at scale. You'll architect core systems that engineering teams across the organization rely on, with a focus on reliability, performance, and clean software design.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services in a distributed architecture
• Architect platform capabilities that enable other engineering teams to build on top of your work
• Implement solutions that address scalability, reliability, and performance challenges in production systems
• Work with high-throughput message systems and distributed data stores to support real-time processing needs
• Collaborate across teams on complex technical initiatives requiring coordination and alignment
• Apply distributed systems principles including consensus protocols, replication strategies, and CAP theorem trade-offs

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience with significant focus on distributed systems
• Strong programming capability in Java, Go, Scala, or similar languages
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts including consensus, replication, and consistency models
• Hands-on experience with high-throughput message systems such as Kafka
• Strong SQL skills and proven experience with both relational and NoSQL databases
• Production experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• U.S. work authorization (U.S. Citizens, Green Card Holders, EAD Holders, and H-1B transfer candidates are eligible; new H-1B sponsorship is not available)

Preferred:

• Track record leading complex technical initiatives across multiple engineering teams
• Production experience with Kubernetes-based platforms
• Exposure to service-mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd
• Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and tooling
• Open-source contributions to distributed systems projects
