(Senior) AI Product Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential legal-tech organization seeking a Senior AI Product Engineer to drive AI innovation across their platform. You will divide your time between independent AI initiatives and cross-functional squad support.

Independent AI Projects (approximately 50% of your time):

• Identify high-impact AI opportunities within legal workflows where no dedicated team currently owns the solution
• Validate concepts rapidly through stakeholder discussions and working prototypes built in days
• Bring validated solutions to production independently, implementing routing, chaining, summarization, and agent-based systems
• Hand off mature features to product squads with complete documentation, evaluation frameworks, and transition plans

Squad Support (approximately 50% of your time):

• Provide technical guidance on feasibility, cost modeling, model selection, and risk assessment for AI features
• Support teams in designing evaluations, golden datasets, and guardrails
• Review technical concepts before roadmap inclusion, including prompt injection vulnerabilities and regulatory compliance considerations
• Advance organizational AI best practices including prompt engineering standards, LLM observability, and agent-based development workflows

What We're Looking For

Required Technical Experience:

• Multiple production AI/LLM systems shipped to end users with full ownership—prototypes alone do not qualify
• Demonstrated product ownership: taking ambiguous problems through to finished, deployed solutions
• Strong Python skills with solid software engineering fundamentals (Git, testing, CI/CD, code review)
• Deep hands-on experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or equivalent frameworks, including understanding of underlying mechanisms
• Proficiency with LLM provider APIs: function/tool calling, structured outputs, streaming
• Experience designing and implementing evaluations, golden datasets, and pre-deployment guardrails
• Advanced prompt engineering knowledge, including awareness of when to apply specific techniques
• Business-level English required; German language skills are a significant advantage given the legal domain

Essential Soft Skills:

• Maturity to work autonomously without constant team structure: you set priorities and know when to decline requests
• Ability to translate technical trade-offs for non-technical stakeholders and legal processes for engineering teams
