Senior Accountant/ Finance Specialist (m/w/d) – remote

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential EdTech organization seeking a Senior Accountant/Finance Specialist to serve as their central finance point of contact. In this role, you will own the complete operational finance function, building processes from the ground up and automating where it makes sense.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Accounts payable and receivable: Invoice processing, document review, and dunning management
• Payment operations: Daily banking activities, account reconciliations, and transaction management
• Expense management: Processing team travel and expenses through modern platforms
• Revenue reconciliation: Matching digital payment platform transactions with bank receipts
• Tax and compliance: Serving as primary liaison with external tax advisors and auditors, supporting tax audits and annual reviews
• Cross-functional collaboration: Close coordination with sales and other departments on deal terms, commission calculations, and ongoing financial reporting
• Payroll coordination: Preparing, reviewing, and approving domestic and international payroll, including bonus calculations
• Financial reporting: Contributing to monthly, quarterly, and annual closings under HGB standards, plus budgeting and financial planning
• System implementation: Leading the rollout of new finance software, maintaining master data
• Process optimization: Identifying automation opportunities, building integrations between tools, and actively using AI to streamline recurring tasks

This is initially a one-year contract with strong intent for extension or conversion to permanent employment.

What We're Looking For

• Experience: Multiple years of hands-on finance experience with sole responsibility across accounting, payroll, and closing cycles
• Technical skills: Proficiency with DATEV is required; familiarity with tools like Scopevisio, Spendesk, or CRM platforms integrated with sales workflows is a plus
• Digital mindset: Comfort with AI and automation tools, actively using them to improve efficiency
• Working style: Self-directed, proactive, and ownership-driven—you won't wait to be told what to do
• Languages: Excellent German and good English required
