Product Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a rapidly growing fintech organization that is transforming how millions of people access financial services across multiple African markets. Our client operates at significant scale as a leading financial institution in their sector, and they're expanding their engineering team to build products that directly impact everyday transactions for their user base.

As a Product Engineer, you'll join an autonomous, cross-functional team responsible for building and improving payment experiences. You'll own features end-to-end—from understanding user problems through to deployment and support. Recent projects have included enabling in-store payments, utility bill integrations, business payroll solutions, and transportation payment systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship features across the entire product stack, including mobile platforms
• Own the complete development lifecycle from design through deployment and monitoring
• Work across backend (Python), GraphQL APIs, mobile (Kotlin/Swift), and web (TypeScript/React) as needed
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering Leads in a cross-functional team structure
• Support customer-facing teams in resolving technical issues
• Contribute to operational improvements and process refinements
• Travel to operational markets in Africa at least once annually to understand users and product context

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a product engineer
• Fluency in English (French language skills are a significant advantage)
• Willingness to work across the full technology stack, including mobile development
• Strong focus on user outcomes rather than just completing tickets
• Comfort asking questions and seeking help when tackling complex problems
• Clear communication skills with diverse teams across different working styles
• Commitment to code quality and making work easier for future engineers
• Interest in understanding the deeper workings of the tools you use
• Must be based in the United Kingdom, Spain, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, or Burkina Faso
• Ability to travel to Africa for at least 6 consecutive days annually

Technology environment: Python 3, GraphQL, Kotlin, Swift, TypeScript/React, Postgres/CockroachDB, GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes. Prior experience with these specific technologies is beneficial but not required.

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process based on your experience level and location.
