Process Safety Manager – Americas

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential life sciences organization seeking a Process Safety Manager to lead critical process safety initiatives across their Americas operations. This is a fully remote position supporting multiple facilities handling hazardous materials.

Our client is committed to preventing catastrophic process safety events through rigorous management of chemical hazards, regulatory compliance, and implementation of corporate process safety governance. This role protects employees, communities, assets, and organizational reputation while enabling operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management and Risk Management programs aligned with OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA RMP (40 CFR Part 68) requirements
• Establish corporate process safety standards, procedures, and governance processes across North American operations
• Plan, facilitate, and document Process Hazard Analyses including HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, LOPA, and other risk assessment methodologies with multidisciplinary teams
• Lead formal Management of Change (MOC) processes for equipment, technology, procedures, chemicals, and organizational modifications
• Conduct and support incident investigations involving process safety events, near-misses, releases, and operational incidents using root cause analysis methodologies
• Provide process safety oversight for capital projects, facility expansions, and new product introductions including design reviews and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
• Conduct process safety audits, compliance assessments, and gap analyses; monitor closure of corrective actions and track performance indicators
• Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance teams on mechanical integrity programs and risk-based inspection strategies for critical equipment
• Support emergency response planning, crisis management, and major incident preparedness activities
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs for leadership, engineers, operators, maintenance personnel, and EHS professionals
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, hazardous materials regulations, transportation requirements, and fire/building codes
• Act as primary technical resource for process safety matters throughout geographically dispersed operations

What We're Looking For

Education & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, or closely related technical discipline preferred
• Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC), Professional Engineer (PE), or Incident Investigation/Root Cause Analysis certification

Experience:

• Minimum 5-8 years of progressive EHS and/or Process Safety experience within chemical manufacturing, life sciences, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, industrial manufacturing, oil & gas, or related high-hazard industries
• Demonstrated experience managing OSHA PSM and EPA RMP-covered processes
• Experience facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and HAZOP studies
• Experience leading Management of Change (MOC) programs and incident investigations
• Proven ability to partner effectively with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams
• Experience supporting multiple facilities and geographically dispersed operations preferred
• Corporate or regional process safety role experience preferred

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

• Expert knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119) and strong knowledge of EPA Risk Management Program (40 CFR Part 68)
• Understanding of CCPS risk-based process safety principles, NFPA standards, hazardous materials management, and fire protection systems
• Proficiency in risk assessment tools: HAZOP, What-If Analysis, FMEA, LOPA, Bow-Tie Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis methodologies
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical specifications
• Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to influence stakeholders and drive change without direct authority
• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
• Strong facilitation and leadership skills for cross-functional teams
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across numerous facilities simultaneously
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and process safety/EHS management systems
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high collaboration levels
