About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential sports technology client in their search for a Principal Product Manager, Ads. This is a rare ground-floor opportunity to rebuild an advertising platform from scratch—with the advantage of proven demand already in place.
Our client operates a scaled consumer platform serving millions of families. They've successfully monetized through advertising for years, working with national and regional brands. Now, as they unify their user experience on a next-generation platform, they're reimagining their entire ad product with a blank slate.
You'll own the product strategy end-to-end: deciding formats, placements, measurement standards, and the infrastructure that powers it all. You'll partner directly with Design, Engineering, and Ad Sales leadership, reporting to the VP of Product on a top company priority.
Responsibilities
- Own the advertising product roadmap end to end—from ad format and placement strategy through serving infrastructure, targeting, measurement, and reporting
- Design and launch native, integrated ad experiences in partnership with Product Design that deliver value for both consumer users and advertisers
- Own the serving and targeting stack: ad server implementation, trafficking and campaign delivery workflows, private marketplace deal setup, and first-party signal work
- Build the measurement foundation: impression and viewability tracking, event instrumentation, third-party verification, advertiser-facing reporting, and experimentation frameworks
- Define ad quality, density, and user experience standards—where ads appear, how often, and what boundaries we won't cross
- Partner with Ad Sales and Revenue Operations to turn product capability into sellable inventory—packaging, targeting taxonomy, rate card inputs, campaign delivery and pacing
- Model and forecast the business using volume, fill rate, and eCPM models to prioritize which placements are worth building
- Own privacy and compliance requirements for ad targeting and data use, in partnership with Legal, including children's data treatment
- Work in ambiguity—breaking down undefined space into sequenced plans, making practical tradeoffs, and bringing partners along with a clear point of view
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 7-10 years in product management, with meaningful time on the publisher/supply side of the ads ecosystem—building and monetizing ad inventory inside a consumer product
- Direct experience launching or scaling ad products in consumer mobile apps (iOS and Android), including platform-specific realities: SDK integration, ATT and IDFA, store policy, and app release cycles
- Deep, hands-on technical fluency with the publisher ad stack: ad server implementation and trafficking (Google Ad Manager or equivalent), programmatic guaranteed and private marketplace deals, key-value and audience targeting, ad SDK integration, VAST and video formats
- Command of ad economics: fill rate, eCPM, RPM, sell-through, viewability, latency, and how each moves in response to product decisions; comfortable pricing inventory and building models
- Experience working alongside a direct ad sales organization—translating between what sales wants to sell and what the product can deliver
- Demonstrated judgment about ads and user experience; a track record of shipping monetization that didn't degrade the product
- Strong data instincts; comfortable in product analytics tools (Amplitude or similar) and SQL-adjacent enough to interrogate your own funnels
Bonus:
- Experience with rewarded video, pre-roll, or other video monetization formats
- Background in a subscription business where advertising had to coexist with a paid tier
- Working knowledge of children's privacy regimes—COPPA and state-level equivalents—as they apply to advertising
- First-party data and audience signal work: building the pipeline that carries publisher context into targeting decisions
- Familiarity with sports, media, or community-driven consumer platforms
