Principal Platform Engineer – London

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology company that is transforming how medical professionals work. Our client is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to join their core Platform/SRE team in London. This is a hands-on operational role focused on incident response, system reliability, and maintaining production infrastructure at scale.

This position is ideal for experienced SRE professionals who thrive in high-stakes production environments and want to make a tangible impact on systems that support millions of users globally.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response efforts, driving service restoration and maintaining clear communication during critical events
• Identify and resolve recurring reliability issues through improved alerting, automation, and system enhancements
• Operate and improve Kubernetes clusters, cloud infrastructure, and core platform services with increasing ownership
• Strengthen observability by enhancing dashboards, alerts, logs, and traces for faster issue detection and diagnosis
• Reduce operational toil through automation, simplified runbooks, and improved tooling
• Improve deployment processes, rollback mechanisms, and operational readiness to minimise incident risk
• Write and maintain runbooks, participate in blameless post-mortems, and continuously improve incident response practices
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to enhance production readiness and service ownership

What We're Looking For

• 3–6+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform, or operations-focused engineering roles
• Proven track record supporting production systems and participating in on-call rotations
• Strong ability to debug live systems under pressure
• Experience operating cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerised workloads
• Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform or similar tools
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting platforms such as Datadog or Prometheus
• Scripting and automation experience using Python, Bash, or similar languages
• Demonstrated passion for AI through hands-on building, prototyping, or personal projects
• Proactive mindset with a bias toward building solutions rather than waiting for direction
• Confident in your technical thinking while remaining open to alternative perspectives
