Principal Engineer, Real-Time Visualization

About This Role

We are representing a confidential aerospace technology organization that is building next-generation Command & Control software for large-scale autonomous systems. They need a Principal Engineer to own the frontend architecture for their real-time visualization platform—a system that's already deployed and enabling operators to coordinate complex missions today.

This is not typical web development. You'll be designing and building interfaces for dense telemetry visualization, real-time collaborative control, and mission planning at a scale that has almost no precedent in the industry. Think immediate-mode rendering, performance-critical data visualization, and UI paradigms that don't exist yet because the problem space is genuinely new.

Responsibilities

• Own the frontend architecture for a Command & Control platform managing large numbers of autonomous aircraft, evolving it to handle the next order of magnitude in scale and complexity
• Design and implement real-time, collaborative interfaces for simultaneous vehicle control, including graceful degradation under intermittent communications
• Build novel UI concepts for telemetry display, sensor data visualization, scheduling, resource management, and data link status—much of it without industry precedent to reference
• Work directly with operators in the field, translating mission feedback into interface improvements
• Establish frontend architecture patterns, standards, and technical direction for the engineering team
• Ship iteratively with strong CI/CD, QA, and DevSecOps practices

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
• 8+ years building complex, production frontend applications with a proven track record of owning frontend architecture
• Deep production experience with React or comparable modern frameworks
• Experience mentoring engineers and setting technical direction for frontend teams
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations (ITAR requirement)

Strongly Preferred:

• Experience with both immediate-mode (games, simulation) and retained-mode UI paradigms
• Track record with performance-sensitive application development
• Familiarity with video streaming protocols
• Strong UI/UX instincts and design sensibility
• WebGL/OpenGL experience
• Background with geospatial applications
