Principal Engineer – CPS DataValidation Platform (OmniShopper & Homescan)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential consumer insights organization seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical vision and operational excellence of their data validation platform. This is a critical role supporting large-scale consumer panel analytics systems processing millions of records daily.

You'll serve as the senior technical authority for platform reliability, production support, and strategic modernization initiatives spanning hybrid on-premise and cloud infrastructure. This position requires partnering across data science, operations, product, and global engineering teams primarily in US Eastern Time.

Responsibilities

• Own overall platform health, reliability, performance, and scalability for mission-critical data validation systems
• Serve as primary engineering escalation point for production incidents and business-critical issues
• Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and post-incident remediation activities
• Drive improvements in observability, monitoring, alerting, and operational KPIs/SLAs
• Define and execute technical strategy and roadmap balancing modernization with business delivery
• Participate in architecture decisions across on-premise and Azure-based systems
• Review system designs and provide technical guidance ensuring scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness
• Lead engineering efforts for strategic platform initiatives in partnership with product leadership and PMO
• Coordinate execution across multiple engineering and business teams
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and manage dependencies
• Communicate platform health and roadmap updates to stakeholders at all levels

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 10+ years software engineering experience
• 5+ years in Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Architect, or equivalent technical leadership roles
• Proven ownership of mission-critical production systems at enterprise scale
• Experience supporting large-scale data platforms
• Demonstrated success influencing across multiple organizations without direct authority

Required Technical Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with Python and PySpark
• Deep expertise with Oracle Database and SQL performance tuning
• Proficiency in Linux environments
• Experience with Azure Data Services
• Knowledge of Parquet datasets and ETL/data engineering frameworks
• Background in data quality and validation platforms

Leadership Competencies:

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to work effectively across global teams and time zones
• Ownership mindset with bias for action
• Experience leading complex incident resolution efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

• Retail measurement, consumer panel, or syndicated data domain experience
• Experience with consumer analytics platforms
• Background working with data science and advanced analytics teams
• Knowledge of modern data quality, governance, and observability frameworks
