This is a senior technical leadership position focused on architecting and managing enterprise database platforms in cloud environments.

We are seeking an exceptional database engineering leader who combines deep technical expertise with Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps practices. You will shape the architecture, automation, and operational excellence of critical database platforms supporting cloud-first healthcare applications.

Responsibilities

• Architect and govern highly available, resilient, and secure enterprise database platforms across AWS and GCP environments
• Lead reliability, performance, scalability, and lifecycle management of Microsoft SQL Server platforms while driving migrations toward PostgreSQL and cloud-native database services
• Design and develop automated frameworks for database provisioning, patching, backup validation, failover testing, and maintenance using Infrastructure as Code
• Partner with platform engineering teams to implement database release automation, CI/CD pipelines, schema versioning, and environment standardization
• Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database design, query performance, and deployment strategies for cloud-native and microservices architectures
• Establish comprehensive database observability standards, implementing telemetry, logging, proactive alerting, and performance analytics
• Define and improve database reliability objectives, recovery strategies, and operational readiness practices
• Lead root cause analysis following major production incidents and drive permanent corrective actions
• Author enterprise engineering standards, reusable automation modules, and comprehensive technical documentation
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers while influencing technical strategy across the engineering organization
• Continuously evaluate emerging database technologies to recommend architectural improvements

What We're Looking For

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience:

• 10+ years designing, supporting, and managing enterprise relational database platforms in production
• Extensive experience operating in public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Proven implementation of Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices
• Experience with incident response, root cause analysis, and SRE initiatives
• Track record of implementing database DevOps practices including schema versioning and release automation
• Experience mentoring engineers and driving legacy database migrations to cloud-native or open-source platforms

Preferred Experience:

• Supporting cloud-native applications, Kubernetes, or containerized workloads
• Experience in SaaS, healthcare, or highly regulated industries

Certifications:

• Microsoft SQL Server certification or equivalent experience required
• AWS or Google Cloud Professional certification preferred
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent preferred
• Terraform Associate or equivalent Infrastructure as Code certification preferred
• ITIL Foundation or SRE-related certifications preferred

Technical Expertise:

• Expert-level Microsoft SQL Server administration, engine internals, high availability/disaster recovery strategies, and performance engineering
• PostgreSQL or other enterprise relational database platforms knowledge
• Public cloud architectures (AWS/GCP), containerized environments (Kubernetes), and infrastructure automation
• Advanced scripting and programming using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or equivalent languages
• Database performance engineering, SQL query tuning, and troubleshooting distributed data systems
• Observability and monitoring frameworks (Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry preferred)
• Strong ability to communicate complex technical designs and author comprehensive documentation
