About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential AI-powered healthcare technology organization focused on improving patient outcomes through advanced computational pathology. We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer III (Applied Research & Model Development) to join their team and tackle unique machine learning challenges that directly advance medicine and patient care.
In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for research and product development projects. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams including biomedical data scientists, product developers, translational researchers, MLOps specialists, and platform engineers to translate biological and clinical requirements into scalable ML solutions.
Location: Remote (United States) or Boston, MA / New York, NY

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for research and product development projects in the healthcare domain
- Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, engineers, and product teams to translate biological and clinical requirements into scalable ML solutions
- Contribute to experimental design and analysis, including ideation, documentation, and comprehensive reporting
- Participate in knowledge sharing and team initiatives such as design reviews, journal clubs, ML best practices discussions, and governance activities
- Improve ML pipelines and infrastructure in partnership with MLOps and platform engineering teams
- Publish and present scientific work, supporting abstracts, manuscripts, and conference contributions
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline with 5+ years of experience; OR PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline with 3+ years of experience
- Proven track record of developing and deploying machine learning models into production or research applications
- High proficiency in Python, ML frameworks, and data pipeline development
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead and contribute to experimental design, and improve ML workflows
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across scientific and engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-experts and thrive in ambiguous environments
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects efficiently

Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $130,500 - $200,100 based on the primary location of Boston, MA. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
Note: Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
