We are representing a growing, family-owned technology company in the Freiburg area that develops hardware and software solutions for industrial machine vision and automation. Their systems are deployed in over 15,000 machines worldwide.

As a Linux System Administrator, you'll join a deliberately small IT team with significant decision-making authority. Instead of rigid corporate structures, you'll experience short communication paths, direct exchange with leadership, and the opportunity to actively shape technical decisions.

The technology focus is consistently on Linux and Open Source. Exciting projects ahead include migrating existing applications to Open Source alternatives, expanding cyber security and resilience, and continuously developing an internal Linux-based AI server.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the Linux system landscape and associated network and IT infrastructure
• Drive continuous development of existing systems and support migrations from standard software to suitable Open Source alternatives
• Work with technologies including Proxmox, Docker, and vSphere; automate processes using Python and Ansible
• Advance security and resilience initiatives; address technical requirements around NIS 2, GDPR, CRA, and TISAX
• Maintain and expand the company's internal Linux-based AI server, creating secure infrastructure for internal AI usage
• Resolve complex internal IT issues for predominantly technically savvy users, focusing on second and third-level support

What We're Looking For

• Completed training as a Computer Specialist (Fachinformatiker), IT System Administrator, completed IT degree, or comparable qualification
• Minimum two years of professional experience with clear focus on Linux administration after completing your training or studies
• Very strong Linux skills - you already work routinely with Linux and don't need to familiarize yourself with the operating system
• Solid understanding of network technology, network protocols, and IT infrastructure
• Experience with virtualization or container technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, or vSphere
• Knowledge of automation, for example with Python, Ansible, or comparable technologies
• Enthusiasm for Open Source and interest in building an IT landscape on open and secure solutions for the long term
• Fluent German language skills at minimum C1 level as well as fluent English
• Independent, pragmatic working style and desire to actively shape technical decisions and try new solutions together with the team
• Knowledge of Nextcloud, Open Xchange, Nginx, pfSense, OpenVPN, Git, or Ceph as well as experience with IT Security are advantageous

Pay

Annual gross salary from €60,000 with willingness to significantly exceed this based on qualifications and experience, plus performance-based annual bonus.
