We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Linux System Administrator to join their lean IT team. This is a remote-focused position based in Germany, offering exceptional autonomy to shape a modern open-source IT landscape.

Our client develops hardware and software solutions for industrial applications, with systems deployed in over 15,000 machines worldwide. Their IT strategy centers on Linux and open source technologies, and they're looking for someone who wants to build and innovate—not just maintain existing infrastructure.

You'll work directly with leadership, enjoy short decision paths, and have genuine influence over technical direction. Upcoming projects include migrating proprietary applications to open-source alternatives, expanding cyber security and resilience capabilities, and developing an internal Linux-based AI server.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the Linux system landscape, network infrastructure, and related IT systems
• Drive migration initiatives from commercial software to suitable open-source alternatives
• Work with virtualization and container technologies including Proxmox, Docker, and vSphere
• Automate processes using Python, Ansible, or similar tools
• Advance security and resilience measures, addressing requirements around NIS 2, GDPR, CRA, and TISAX
• Maintain and expand the company's internal Linux-based AI infrastructure
• Provide second- and third-level technical support for primarily tech-savvy internal users

What We're Looking For

• Completed apprenticeship as IT specialist, degree in computer science, or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 2 years post-qualification professional experience with clear focus on Linux administration
• Strong Linux expertise—you should already be working confidently with Linux systems
• Solid understanding of networking, network protocols, and IT infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with virtualization or container technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, or vSphere
• Proven skills in automation using Python, Ansible, or comparable technologies
• Passion for open-source solutions and interest in building a long-term IT landscape on open, secure platforms
• Professional fluency in German (C1 level minimum) and English
• Independent, pragmatic working style with enthusiasm for co-creating technical solutions
• Experience with Nextcloud, Open Xchange, Nginx, pfSense, OpenVPN, Git, Ceph, or IT security is advantageous
