Legal Engineer (Privacy & Compliance)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential legal technology company seeking a Legal Engineer to build privacy and compliance product capabilities from the ground up. This is a greenfield opportunity to shape a new vertical within an established platform serving in-house legal teams.

Our client is based in Edinburgh and operates an in-person work model. This is a mid-to-senior level role requiring independence, client-facing confidence, and deep expertise in privacy law and compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Translate privacy and compliance requirements into structured, AI-executable solutions using the platform
• Own and shape a new product vertical from inception, with significant autonomy over design and implementation
• Support pre-sales activities by sitting with prospective clients, understanding their compliance challenges, and building or demonstrating solutions
• Apply knowledge of privacy law and the broader regulatory landscape (AI governance, financial services compliance, security frameworks) to customer problems
• Build privacy and compliance workflows using the client's no-code platform, leveraging AI agents appropriately
• Extend capabilities into adjacent legal and governance areas as customer needs emerge
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to scale this vertical

What We're Looking For

• Deep expertise in privacy law and/or the compliance landscape, including areas such as AI governance, security frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2), financial regulation, or employment law
• Qualified lawyer or privacy/compliance specialist with substantial field experience, comfortable working across adjacent legal domains
• Strong AI literacy with hands-on understanding of current AI capabilities and limitations
• Builder's mindset: ability to structure messy legal and compliance requirements into workable, systematic solutions
• Client-facing confidence in pre-sales and post-sales settings, capable of diagnosing problems and demonstrating solutions independently
• Several years of mid-to-senior level experience in privacy or compliance practice
• Proactive, self-directed working style suited to an in-person Edinburgh office environment

Desirable but not essential: Experience in legal tech, RegTech, or SaaS environments; exposure to prompt design, workflow automation, or low-code tools; breadth across GRC frameworks and AI governance regimes.
