Lead Software Engineer (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential insurtech organization based in Berlin. They're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to take technical ownership of a product configuration platform while staying hands-on with code. This is a role where you'll spend most of your time building—researching solutions, writing technical proposals, shipping features—while also growing as a technical leader who guides teammates and collaborates with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of a team responsible for building and managing insurance product configuration systems
• Spend the majority of your time hands-on: researching technical solutions, writing RFCs, building proof-of-concepts with cross-functional teams, and shipping production code
• Partner with product managers and business stakeholders on key technical and strategic decisions
• Keep delivery on track through realistic planning, agile principles, and meeting deadlines
• Lead by example: provide feedback, facilitate team meetings, and support colleagues' professional development
• Identify obstacles early, resolve blockers proactively, and maintain clear stakeholder communication

What We're Looking For

• Solid hands-on software engineering experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Some initial experience leading or managing people—you don't need extensive management history, but you've done it at least once and want to continue growing in that direction
• Full-stack understanding across frontend and backend development with a cloud-agnostic approach
• Demonstrated experience working with AI tools in your engineering workflow, including harnesses, delegating to subagents, and orchestrating multi-agent setups
• Strong communication skills and motivation to build and guide a team over time
• Insurance or finance domain experience is a plus
