Lead Software Engineer (Golang/TypeScript/React) – Contractor

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Lead Software Engineer to take technical ownership of high-impact, customer-facing products used by major corporations and financial institutions globally. This is a remote contractor position based in Colombia, with periodic in-person meet-ups required in the region.

Working hours are Monday-Friday, 9-5 EST/EDT, with potential on-call support. You'll report to the Head of Engineering and lead a team of approximately three engineers plus a Product Manager, delivering features that make a meaningful difference to clients in the cross-border payments and financial data space.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership and responsibility for code quality and architecture delivered by your team
• Provide line management, coaching, and mentorship to team engineers, helping them grow their expertise
• Align your team on goals, outcomes, and delivery timelines
• Collaborate with Product and Technology stakeholders to translate strategic roadmaps into actionable tasks
• Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance Golang microservices and frontend applications
• Deliver performant, beautiful interfaces driven by the design system
• Improve performance and observability of services and applications
• Enhance team quality of life through automation, process improvement, and adoption of new technologies
• Provide visibility on delivery progress to stakeholders outside your immediate team

What We're Looking For

Required Skills:

• Experience line managing and coaching engineering teams
• Strong proficiency writing Golang services and web application backends
• Ability to deploy applications in Docker containers
• Experience writing performant SQL queries
• Expertise building componentized application frontends in React and TypeScript
• Deep understanding of clean code principles and language idioms for TypeScript and Go
• Experience conducting code reviews and establishing team quality standards
• Ability to learn and engage with new business domains and products quickly
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated ability to continuously learn and improve your skills

Helpful But Not Essential:

• Experience with concurrent logic and goroutines
• Building CI/CD pipelines, especially with GitLab CI
• Configuring and using observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
• Experience utilizing AI to increase productivity and efficiency
• Familiarity with MaterialUI, Airflow, Python, or Terraform
