Lead Product Data Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is transforming customer operations through AI. Our client works with major banking and fintech institutions across the UK, and our talent team is seeking a Lead Product Data Scientist to join their growing team.

In this role, you'll be at the intersection of customer engagement and product optimization, working directly with end users to translate their needs into measurable improvements. You'll own the complete optimization cycle—from initial customer conversations through hypothesis testing, experimentation, and delivery of AI-driven enhancements.

Responsibilities

• Engage directly with customers to define success metrics and align on objectives, using real-world data to generate actionable insights
• Optimize AI agent performance by tuning and improving systems against customer-specific metrics during onboarding and beyond
• Own the end-to-end optimization workflow, translating data-driven opportunities into tangible product improvements and demonstrating delivered value
• Conduct deep-dive data analysis, understanding information at granular levels to form and test robust hypotheses about broader patterns
• Collaborate across teams and functions to identify highest-impact opportunities and drive delivery, scoping your own initiatives with significant autonomy
• Transform ad hoc analyses into scalable, self-service tools for both internal teams and customers

What We're Looking For

• Significant data science experience at lead or staff level, with fluency in SQL and Python and deep understanding of statistical methods
• Proven ability to build robust data pipelines with minimal oversight
• Background in startup or fast-moving tech environments, particularly close to product or customer-facing functions
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills—comfortable moving from SQL queries to clear conclusions and actionable next steps
• Product mindset with pragmatic approach to tradeoffs, capable of moving quickly to deliver business impact
• Expert communication skills suitable for customer-facing interactions
• Confidence using AI tools to enhance productivity while maintaining high output standards

Location & Benefits

This position is based in the United Kingdom with flexible hybrid working arrangements. Our client maintains an office in central London, and candidates can work remotely within the UK (ideally with ability to visit the office at least once weekly).

The benefits package includes private medical and dental insurance, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (or 32 days with bank holiday opt-out), team social events and offsites, and meaningful equity compensation alongside competitive base salary.
