Metro Nashville Public Schools is hiring a Grade 7 Social Studies Teacher to join our instructional team at Stratford Middle School in Nashville, Davidson County. As part of one of the nation's largest and most diverse urban school districts, you'll teach engaging social studies lessons to seventh-grade students and contribute to our mission of preparing over 80,000 learners across Metro Nashville for success.
About the Role
This is a full-time, school-based teaching position that runs 201 days per year aligned with the Metro Nashville Public Schools academic calendar. You'll design and deliver standards-aligned social studies instruction, manage a dynamic classroom, and foster an inclusive learning environment where seventh graders develop critical thinking skills and civic awareness.
What You'll Do
- Plan and deliver engaging social studies lessons aligned to state standards for grade 7 students
- Create a positive, structured classroom environment that supports student learning and behavior
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, adjusting instruction based on data
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including students with exceptional abilities and those requiring additional support
- Maintain detailed records of student achievement and communicate progress to families
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to support whole-school initiatives and professional learning
- Participate in professional development activities and district-wide meetings
- Build positive relationships with families through conferences, communication, and engagement
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Tennessee teaching license or eligibility to obtain licensure in Social Studies
- Strong knowledge of social studies content and pedagogy for middle grades
- Ability to design effective lessons that engage diverse learners
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful classroom community
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and support school improvement efforts
