Finance & Grants Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential climate technology organization based in Berlin that is building digital measurement and verification tools for environmental impact. They work at the intersection of satellite technology, machine learning, and agricultural sustainability, supported by public research funding and venture capital.

Our talent team is seeking a Finance & Grants Manager to own public funding operations, financial reporting, and grant management. You'll work directly with the CEO and coordinate across technical and commercial teams to secure research funding, manage active projects with space agencies and European programmes, and maintain the financial infrastructure that keeps project costs traceable and reporting reliable.

Responsibilities

Grants and Public Funding

• Manage end-to-end coordination of an active European Space Agency project: monthly progress reports, milestone reviews, deliverable coordination, time tracking, and cost allocation
• Build and maintain a funding pipeline, evaluate opportunities for strategic fit, and write compelling applications for European research programmes
• Own EIT reporting, compliance requirements, and funder portals; coordinate audits and maintain complete supporting documentation

External Reporting and Corporate Affairs

• Produce investor reporting packs and public funder updates using consistent financial and project data
• Manage the reporting calendar and coordinate contributions to ensure timely, complete submissions
• Coordinate shareholder resolutions and notary appointments

Financial Operations

• Prepare bookkeeping for handoff to the tax firm with clear notes, correct tax codes, cost centres, and project allocations
• Run the monthly close in collaboration with external tax advisors
• Manage SEPA mandates, AWV filings, and self-issued receipts with accurate documentation

What We're Looking For

Required

• Demonstrated experience with European public funding mechanisms: ESA, EU framework programmes, EIT, national schemes, or comparable programmes
• Track record of writing or substantially shaping successful funding applications
• Comfort with financial detail including cost centres, tax codes, and reconciliations
• Ability to manage fixed deadlines and maintain accuracy under time pressure
• Skill in coordinating input from technical subject matter experts without direct management authority
• Excellent written and verbal communication in both German and English

Preferred

• Background in Drittmittelmanagement, Fördermittelmanagement, or kaufmännische Projektabwicklung from a research institute, university, foundation, or consultancy setting
• Experience with funder or public audits
• Familiarity with DATEV, Lexoffice, Pleo, or similar financial tools
• Startup experience where you've built or improved operational processes
