Extra Duty – High School Assistant Coaches Boys Basketball

Gresham Barlow School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball to join our athletic program at Gresham High School. This is a full-time position designed to support our commitment to athletic excellence and student-athlete development in the Gresham, Oregon area.

About the Role

As an Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball, you'll play a vital role in developing our student-athletes both on and off the court. Working alongside our Head Coach, you'll contribute to a program that emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young athletes during critical years of their development.

What You'll Do

• Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practice sessions focused on skill development, conditioning, and team strategy
• Instruct student-athletes in basketball fundamentals, game tactics, and defensive principles
• Contribute to game preparation and performance analysis
• Help maintain team discipline and enforce athletic program policies and standards
• Support recruitment and roster development efforts
• Participate in athletic events, tournaments, and competitions as assigned
• Foster a positive, inclusive team environment that prioritizes student-athlete wellbeing and safety
• Maintain regular communication with athletes regarding performance, improvement areas, and academic progress

What We're Looking For

• Proven coaching experience at the high school level or equivalent competitive environment
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, strategy, and player development
• Valid coaching certification or eligibility to obtain it within your contract period
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and colleagues
• Commitment to athlete safety, sportsmanship, and character development
• Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes in a team setting
• Passion for high school athletics and secondary education
