Exelixis is seeking an experienced Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) Director to lead oncology field-based scientific engagement across California. This full-time position, based in Valley Home, Stanislaus County, offers the opportunity to serve as a clinical thought partner and scientific authority for oncology healthcare professionals, building and strengthening relationships that advance our biotechnology innovations in cancer care.
About the Role
As Medical Science Liaisons Director for Exelixis' oncology business, you will oversee and conduct field-based scientific engagement with oncology physicians, research centers, and healthcare institutions. Working from our Northern California headquarters, you'll lead clinical knowledge exchange, establish meaningful scientific collaborations, and ensure evidence-based representation of our oncology portfolio to healthcare professionals at the local, regional, and national levels.
What You'll Do
- Conduct advanced scientific discussions and clinical knowledge exchange with oncology healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with cancer centers, academic medical centers, and healthcare organizations throughout California and beyond
- Partner with medical affairs, clinical development, and commercial teams to ensure scientifically rigorous and compliant healthcare professional engagement
- Support investigator-sponsored research, clinical trial activities, and scientific advisory initiatives
- Represent Exelixis at medical conferences, oncology professional societies, and scientific meetings
- Supervise and mentor Medical Science Liaisons and field medical personnel
- Monitor emerging clinical evidence and scientific literature relevant to oncology therapeutics
- Maintain compliance with healthcare professional engagement regulations and ethical standards
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) with expertise in oncology or pharmaceutical sciences
- 5+ years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison, clinical specialist, or field medical affairs professional
- Demonstrated leadership capability managing teams or directing scientific programs
- In-depth knowledge of oncology therapeutics, clinical trial methodologies, and medical evidence evaluation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage diverse healthcare audiences
- Established credibility in the oncology community or proven ability to develop professional relationships
- Willingness to travel throughout California and nationally as needed
- Commitment to scientific integrity and compliance in healthcare professional interactions
