Engineering Manager – Stream Aligned

Position Summary

As an Engineering Manager - Stream Aligned at PortSwigger, you'll lead a cross-functional engineering team organised around a specific value stream. You will balance hands-on technical oversight with people leadership, ensuring your team consistently delivers high-quality software whilst maintaining a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.

What You'll Do

• Lead and mentor a stream-aligned engineering team, providing technical guidance, code review oversight, and career development opportunities
• Partner with product leadership and stakeholders to establish stream objectives, prioritise work, and deliver incremental value
• Drive technical decision-making for features and improvements aligned to your stream's mission and strategic goals
• Establish team practices that emphasise psychological safety, code quality, and engineering excellence
• Identify and resolve technical and organisational blockers affecting team velocity and morale
• Conduct regular one-to-one discussions, performance development conversations, and hiring to strengthen your team
• Contribute to architecture discussions and longer-term technical strategy across the engineering function

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams or leading engineers in a technical capacity
• Strong technical foundation with the ability to evaluate, guide, and credibly review engineering work
• Proven ability to influence and communicate effectively across product, design, and business functions
• Hands-on experience with agile development methodologies and iterative delivery practices
• Understanding of value stream thinking, stream-aligned organisational structures, or similar team topologies
• Genuine commitment to developing engineers and building high-performing, resilient teams
• Ability to balance delivery commitments with engineer wellbeing and professional growth
