Engineering Manager, Security Detection & Response

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing B2B SaaS client seeking an Engineering Manager, Security Detection & Response to build and scale their security operations from the ground up. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in startup environments—where shipping detection systems and automations happens in weeks, not months, and where you'll balance velocity with rigor while staying close to the technical details.

You'll lead a fully remote team, coach engineers to grow in technical depth and operational ownership, and translate security risk into clear business decisions. This role requires comfort with ambiguity, excellent asynchronous communication, and the ability to ship fast and iterate based on what works.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing remote Security Detection & Response team with strong onboarding, documentation, and knowledge-sharing practices. Define team culture around experimentation: ship detection rules quickly, measure effectiveness, iterate based on signal.
• Ship detection systems and content at startup velocity—detection rules, MITRE ATT&CK-aligned use cases, investigation playbooks, and response automations with measurement and validation loops. Ship first, perfect later.
• Oversee Panther detections and AI-assisted workflows for triage, enrichment, and response. Continuously measure coverage, precision, latency, and tuning effectiveness through safe rollout and attack simulation.
• Drive Python-based tooling, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD practices to enable the team to ship detection content in days, not quarters. Stay close to technical work through code reviews, architecture decisions, and hands-on problem-solving.
• Own end-to-end security observability—telemetry onboarding, signal quality, threat intelligence inputs, and alert tuning. Lead complex and high-severity incidents with clear decision-making and effective communication.
• Partner closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, IT, Fraud, Legal, People, Support, and Product to translate security risk into business decisions and communicate impact to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Define and own strategy-aligned metrics: detection latency, coverage gaps, false positive rates, team velocity. Communicate security impact in business terms.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years in Security Detection & Response, Security Engineering, or Incident Response with hands-on experience building and shipping detection systems
• 2+ years of people management, including hiring, coaching, and performance management in a remote-first environment
• Strong technical foundation in modern SIEM platforms, detection engineering, log analysis, and threat intelligence workflows; Panther experience highly valued
• Python proficiency for automation, analysis, and internal tooling—you must remain technically credible with engineers and review code
• Comfort with startup velocity: make sound decisions with incomplete information, ship fast, iterate based on feedback, and know when "good enough" is good enough
• Experience with Git workflows, CI/CD practices, and building security content and automation pipelines as code
• Cloud-native and SaaS expertise (GCP preferred); familiarity with Google Workspace, Okta, GitHub, Slack, Atlassian, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Kandji, Panther, and Snowflake strongly valued
• Excellent communication skills to translate technical security work into business impact for executives and explain engineering trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred:

• Experience leading Detection Engineering or Security Engineering teams in high-growth cloud or SaaS startup environments
• AI-assisted security workflows: production experience using AI for triage, investigation, or response
• MITRE ATT&CK, threat intelligence workflows, and vulnerability management SLAs with a bias toward automation and shipping
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, GCED, or cloud security certifications
• Track record of shipping fast—leading teams that iterate weekly and measure success by velocity and signal quality

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai reflects the total cash compensation inclusive of annual base salary and annual bonus as applicable: $225,400–$281,800 USD. The final offer will be narrowed based on experience, qualifications, and location.
