Engineering Manager (m/f/d) – Power-to-X & E-Fuels Plant Engineering

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential cleantech organization in Karlsruhe that is advancing sustainable energy solutions through innovative chemical engineering. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the technical execution of complex Power-to-X and e-fuels plant projects within an EPC/EPCM framework.

In this role, you will serve as the central technical authority coordinating engineering activities across multiple disciplines, managing both internal teams and external engineering partners, and ensuring seamless integration between process design, plant construction, automation, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership for EPC plant projects, coordinating engineering efforts across all disciplines
• Lead internal engineering teams and manage interfaces with Operations, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Project Management functions
• Oversee external engineering partners, EPC contractors, and specialist planners including tendering, contract management, performance oversight, and claims resolution
• Coordinate and approve process engineering fundamentals including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, control philosophies, and safety concepts
• Manage technical change processes, evaluating impacts on schedule, cost, and project deliverables
• Review and approve technical calculations, vendor documentation, and fabrication and installation packages
• Provide technical support for permitting and regulatory compliance, coordinating with government agencies, inspection bodies, and subject matter experts

What We're Looking For

• University degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Plant Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or comparable field
• Several years of demonstrated experience as a Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager in plant construction and process engineering, ideally within chemical or petrochemical industries
• Proven track record technically leading engineering teams on EPC/EPCM projects
• Independent, proactive working style with strong ownership of technical outcomes
• Excellent assertiveness paired with a solution-oriented mindset
• Very good written and spoken German and English skills
