Data Engineer / Scientist – Multimodal Clinical Data Integration & AI (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential biotechnology organization in Heidelberg that is tackling critical challenges in neuro-oncology research. Our client is part of a major European consortium generating unprecedented multimodal patient datasets—multi-omics, digital pathology, 3D imaging, longitudinal clinical records, and single-cell perturbation data. They need a founding data engineer or scientist to build the infrastructure that transforms these complex, disparate data streams into AI-ready resources for predictive modeling and drug discovery research.

This is a rare opportunity to establish the technical foundation for a new Heidelberg hub, working at the intersection of clinical data, computational biology, and artificial intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale data infrastructure that unifies multi-omics, spatial transcriptomics, digital pathology, radiological imaging, and clinical datasets
• Harmonize and standardize multimodal datasets to support deep-learning pipelines and AI workflows
• Serve as the technical bridge between wet-lab researchers, clinical oncologists, and machine-learning scientists, translating biological questions into robust data schemas
• Implement biomedical metadata standards and ensure GDPR-compliant governance for sensitive patient data
• Collaborate closely with computer-vision and AI teams to prepare data for predictive modeling and agentic systems

What We're Looking For

• PhD, or MSc with 2+ years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related quantitative field
• Proven ability to structure and integrate complex biological or clinical datasets; hands-on experience with real-world patient data is highly desirable
• Deep expertise in at least one modality: multi-omics, spatial biology, digital pathology, or medical imaging
• Familiarity with biomedical metadata standards and data governance in healthcare or research settings
• Advanced Python skills and modern software-engineering practices
• Experience with database architecture, biological data tooling, or AI coding assistants is a strong plus
• Self-driven, curious mindset with motivation to apply cutting-edge technology to patient-centered research in an agile environment
