About the Role

Court Services Officers in the Pretrial Services unit investigate and evaluate defendants pending trial, preparing comprehensive reports that guide judicial decision-making. Your work directly impacts public safety, defendant rights, and the efficiency of the court process. You'll interview defendants and witnesses, gather background information, assess flight risk and community ties, and monitor compliance with pretrial conditions.

What You'll Do

• Conduct thorough interviews with defendants to develop detailed background and social histories
• Investigate employment, financial, family, and community stability factors
• Prepare detailed written reports and recommendations for pretrial release decisions
• Monitor defendants released on pretrial supervision and ensure compliance with conditions
• Perform home and office visits to verify residence and employment information
• Communicate findings and recommendations to judges, attorneys, and court staff
• Maintain detailed case files and documentation
• Collaborate with law enforcement, social services, and community organizations

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED (associate degree or higher education preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interview and assess individuals objectively and professionally
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
• Valid New Jersey driver's license and reliable transportation
• Willingness to undergo background investigation and security clearance
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Professional demeanor when interacting with diverse populations
