The City of Austin's Department of Aviation is seeking an Internal Auditor IV to join our Austin-Bergstrom International Airport team in Austin, Texas. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape audit strategy and oversight for a major regional economic engine during an unprecedented expansion period.
About the Role
As Internal Auditor IV, you will provide senior-level audit leadership and strategic guidance across Austin-Bergstrom International Airport's operations. You'll oversee complex audit engagements, mentor audit staff, and drive continuous improvement in internal controls and compliance across our aviation enterprise as we execute the airport's most ambitious capital program to date.
What You'll Do
- Lead enterprise-wide internal audit planning, execution, and reporting to ensure alignment with organizational risk and strategic objectives
- Conduct comprehensive audits across airport operations, infrastructure projects, procurement, finance, and administrative functions
- Evaluate control environments, assess governance frameworks, and recommend process improvements across departments
- Mentor and supervise junior audit staff, fostering professional development and audit quality standards
- Communicate audit findings and recommendations to senior leadership and the City of Austin's audit committee
- Ensure compliance with audit standards, City policies, and regulatory requirements applicable to aviation operations
- Identify emerging risks and emerging compliance requirements within the airport's operations
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
- Minimum 7+ years of audit, accounting, or internal control experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or senior auditor role
- Professional audit certification (CIA, CPA, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in enterprise risk assessment, internal controls, and compliance frameworks
- Advanced knowledge of audit methodologies, SOX compliance, and government/public sector audit standards
- Exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex audits simultaneously and mentor a team
- Strong understanding of or ability to quickly master airport and aviation operations
