About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential restaurant technology company in their search for a founding Bookkeeper—a rare chance to join a Financial Management team at the ground floor. This isn't a traditional bookkeeping role with established processes and playbooks. You'll be doing real client work while simultaneously building the service, systems, and standards that will define how this function scales.

You'll manage books for pilot restaurant customers while working directly with product and engineering teams to shape tooling and workflows. If you love restaurant accounting—the complexity of prime cost, tip reporting, multi-location reconciliation—and you're energized by the idea of designing the recipe rather than following one, this role offers a unique opportunity to leave your mark on something new.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end bookkeeping for a portfolio of pilot restaurant clients: chart of accounts setup, monthly close, bank and POS reconciliations, accruals, and delivery of clean financial statements
• Serve as the in-house expert on restaurant-specific accounting including prime cost, COGS, labor and tip reporting, multi-unit consolidation, high-volume daily transaction reconciliation, and multi-jurisdiction sales tax
• Embed with product and engineering teams to translate real client workflows and pain points into product requirements that shape the roadmap—you'll participate in build decisions, not just receive updates
• Design and document SOPs, controls, and QA processes for a bookkeeping function that doesn't yet exist—you'll build the foundation others will scale
• Work directly with restaurant operators to understand their businesses, set expectations, and deliver service that earns their trust
• Help define what excellence looks like for this function as it grows, including future hiring needs, tooling choices, and where automation should enhance judgment rather than replace it
• Move fluidly between hands-on bookkeeping and strategic building work as priorities shift

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of bookkeeping experience with meaningful time spent on restaurant or hospitality clients
• Deep working knowledge of restaurant accounting mechanics: COGS and prime cost, tip pooling and reporting, multi-location consolidation, and reconciling high-volume POS transaction data
• Fluency with modern bookkeeping and accounting software, and genuine enthusiasm for adopting new tools
• Experience building a process or practice from scratch
• Genuine comfort with ambiguity and undefined scope—you'd rather help define a role than be handed a finished one
• Strong communication skills able to translate accounting complexity into plain language for both restaurant operators and internal technical partners
• Sharp attention to detail and organizational discipline to manage multiple clients' books accurately and on schedule

Nice to Have:

• Experience at a tech startup, in professional services, or in an embedded finance or fintech environment
• Prior exposure to restaurant management systems or POS platforms
• Experience working with AI tools for productivity
• CPA, CB, or equivalent bookkeeping or accounting credential
