Big Data Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization that specializes in enterprise data management and security solutions. Our client operates at significant scale, managing massive data volumes for major global enterprises. They are seeking an experienced Big Data Engineer to join their R&D team in Paris and contribute to the evolution of their data platform architecture.

This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge data engineering challenges, handling hundreds of terabytes of data and building sophisticated lakehouse solutions that serve millions of end users.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, handle, and monitor Spark data pipelines for large-volume data lake ingestion at massive scale
• Continuously optimize the performance, reliability, and costs of big data pipelines and infrastructure
• Leverage modern data platforms including Databricks, Snowflake, or AWS Redshift alongside cloud solutions (AWS S3, Glue/Athena, Lambda) for scalable data engineering
• Demonstrate strong expertise in managing, creating, and optimizing Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg tables within lakehouse architectures
• Apply security-by-design, data governance, and compliance best practices across storage, compute, and sharing layers
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, enterprise-grade data solutions

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering or backend data platforms, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience building and operating big data pipelines
• Proven track record handling large volumes of data (at least hundreds of TB in production environments)
• Deep knowledge of at least one data lake platform: Databricks, Snowflake, or AWS Redshift
• Strong expertise in Apache Spark (creation, handling, and monitoring of pipelines) and lakehouse table formats (Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg)
• Strong Python or Java and SQL skills, along with cloud infrastructure experience (AWS S3, Athena, Glue) and IaC/observability practices
• Solid understanding of cost management principles, data security, governance, and data modeling
• Engineering school degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Applied Mathematics (or equivalent)
• Fluent in both English and French with clear communication skills
• Ownership mindset and strong collaborative abilities

Location: Paris (75002), France – Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days remote
