Backend Engineer – Supply Chain & Logistics

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential logistics technology organization in Berlin that is redefining how industrial materials move across borders. Our client operates at the intersection of AI and supply chain operations, managing complex trade flows across multiple European markets.

We're seeking a Backend Engineer to join their Supply Chain & Logistics domain team. You'll work on systems that handle real-time data flows, complex routing logic, and integrations across a fragmented provider ecosystem. This role sits at the technical core of operations that process high-volume trade transactions.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services powering supply chain workflows, including order management, logistics provider integrations, and real-time tracking
• Develop event-driven pipelines that process high-throughput logistics data reliably at scale
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party logistics providers, ERPs, and warehouse management systems
• Own and evolve data models representing complex supply chain entities such as shipments, inventory positions, and fulfillment nodes
• Identify performance bottlenecks and lead engineering efforts to resolve production system issues
• Work with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) to build intelligent workflows and automation
• Collaborate with Product and domain experts to translate operational complexity into clean technical solutions
• Contribute to architecture decisions and maintain high engineering standards through code reviews and documentation

What We're Looking For

• 5-7+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally within logistics, supply chain, or operations-intensive domains
• Strong command of Java (Spring Boot) or equivalent JVM-based frameworks; Python experience is a strong plus
• Experience designing systems that handle real-time data ingestion and processing (Kafka, Kinesis, or similar)
• Comfortable with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and modeling complex, interrelated business domains
• Pragmatic approach to distributed systems with understanding of trade-offs around consistency, availability, and latency
• Exposure to third-party API integrations and navigating legacy and external systems
• Detail-oriented mindset and motivation to ship reliable solutions for real-world problems
• Tech stack includes: Java 21 (Spring Boot 3), Python, PostgreSQL, Kinesis, AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Node.js, TypeScript
