About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential industrial manufacturing organization seeking an Environmental Specialist to join their operations in Panama, United States. This technical role supports environmental compliance and risk management across multiple manufacturing facilities in the region.

We are looking for an experienced environmental professional who can serve as a subject-matter expert, partnering with site teams to strengthen compliance systems and support sustainable manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide environmental technical support and compliance expertise to manufacturing sites across the assigned region
• Evaluate compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and company standards
• Lead or support environmental compliance audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews; develop and verify corrective actions
• Manage air permitting and emissions compliance activities, including permit applications, emissions inventories, calculations, monitoring, and regulatory reporting
• Verify environmental permits and authorizations remain aligned with current site equipment, processes, materials, and operating conditions
• Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs, including characterization, storage, labeling, transportation, and vendor management
• Support wastewater and stormwater compliance, including permitting, sampling, monitoring, discharge limitations, and reporting
• Coordinate spill prevention and response programs, chemical management, and environmental emergency response
• Investigate environmental incidents, releases, permit deviations, and regulatory events; lead root-cause analysis and corrective action development
• Review and validate environmental compliance data for permit tracking, emissions calculations, and regulatory submissions
• Monitor compliance trends across sites to identify systemic risks and develop scalable solutions and best practices
• Develop standardized compliance tools, procedures, permit matrices, compliance calendars, and technical guidance
• Coordinate environmental consultants, laboratories, waste vendors, and service providers
• Monitor emerging environmental regulations and assess impacts to regional operations
• Promote sharing of best practices and lessons learned across manufacturing sites

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related technical discipline required; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 8 years of progressive environmental compliance experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial operations
• Demonstrated technical expertise across multiple environmental regulatory programs: air permitting and emissions, hazardous waste, wastewater/stormwater, chemical management, spill prevention, and regulatory reporting
• Proven ability to independently interpret environmental regulations and permit conditions, assess operations for compliance gaps, and develop practical risk-based solutions
• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental compliance data systems preferred
• Professional environmental certifications (CHMM, PE, QEP, REM) preferred but not required
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project-management skills
• Excellent communication abilities with experience influencing and providing technical guidance across multiple organizational levels
• Willingness and ability to travel to manufacturing sites within the assigned region as required
