Backend Developer

About This Role

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building core backend infrastructure for a next-generation banking and payments platform. This is a backend engineering role focused on building reliable, production-grade systems that will power financial products at scale across multiple markets.

Our client is looking for experienced backend engineers who can own critical system components, integrate with financial partners, and ship features that directly impact real customer transactions and operational workflows.

This is a remote position based in Sweden. Candidates must already be located in Sweden.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs for account management, payments, transfers, KYC workflows, and risk operations
• Design reliable systems that support live customer transactions and can scale across markets and partners
• Integrate with internal platforms, financial service providers, payment processors, and third-party APIs
• Own backend quality including reliability, security, latency, observability, data integrity, and incident response
• Collaborate with product, frontend, mobile, and data teams to deliver features safely and quickly
• Continuously improve existing systems by simplifying flows, reducing manual processes, and implementing automation

What We're Looking For

• Proven backend engineering experience building and maintaining production systems
• Strong understanding of APIs, databases, authentication, authorization, queues, background jobs, events, and service integrations
• Track record of building services that serve real customers or support operational workflows at meaningful scale
• Strong focus on debugging, reliability, security, and data quality
• Ability to make practical engineering trade-offs between speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability
• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, wallets, KYC, fraud prevention, or risk is highly valued but not required if core fundamentals are strong
• Excellent English communication skills (English is the primary working language)

• Engineers seeking isolated, narrowly-scoped backend tasks
• Candidates who do not prioritize security, data consistency, monitoring, or operational risk
• Developers uncomfortable working with fast-changing product requirements
• Those who lack hands-on experience with production systems at scale
