About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI research organization for their Fellows Program focused on AI Safety. This is a unique 4-month, full-time research fellowship designed to foster technical talent in alignment research and related fields. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis for cohorts starting in late 2026 and beyond.

Fellows will work on empirical projects using external infrastructure (open-source models, public APIs) with the goal of producing public outputs such as paper submissions. In previous cohorts, over 80% of fellows produced papers, and 25-50% received full-time offers from the organization.

What You'll Do

• Conduct 4 months of full-time research on projects aligned with AI safety priorities
• Work on areas such as scalable oversight, adversarial robustness, model organisms of misalignment, mechanistic interpretability, or AI welfare
• Receive direct mentorship from senior researchers in your chosen area
• Produce public research outputs (papers, blog posts, open-source contributions)
• Collaborate with other fellows and the broader AI safety research community
• Access shared workspace in Berkeley, California or London, UK (remote options available in US, UK, or Canada)

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Fluency in Python programming
• Strong technical background in computer science, mathematics, or physics
• Ability to work full-time for 4 months on the fellowship program
• Existing work authorization in the US, UK, or Canada (visa sponsorship not available)
• Ability to implement ideas quickly and communicate clearly
• Motivation to work on AI safety and beneficial AI systems

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with empirical machine learning research projects
• Experience working with large language models
• Track record of open-source contributions
• Background in relevant disciplines (economics, social sciences, cybersecurity)
• Interest in transitioning to a full-time research role

Location: United States, United Kingdom, or Canada. Must have work authorization in one of these countries and be located there during the program. Workspace available in Berkeley, CA and London, UK, with remote options.

Employment type: 4-month full-time fellowship with possible extension

Pay

The fellowship provides a weekly stipend of $3,850 USD / £2,310 GBP / $4,300 CAD, with an expectation of 40 hours per week for 4 months. Fellows also receive funding for compute resources (~$15k/month) and other research expenses, plus benefits that vary by country.
