Senior Machine Learning Engineer – Care

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology company operating a complex, multi-sided marketplace platform. They are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their customer care and decision systems team in London. This is a hybrid role requiring approximately 3 days per week in their London office.

Our client is investing heavily in ML-driven automation and intelligent decision-making systems that directly impact millions of users. You'll be joining at a time of significant growth and technical evolution, with the opportunity to define foundational ML practices in emerging areas including LLM-powered automation and AI-driven customer support systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the complete machine learning lifecycle from design through productionisation for models used in customer support and high-stakes decision systems
• Build and maintain robust monitoring, evaluation, and alerting frameworks to detect model drift, underperformance, or unexpected behaviour in production environments
• Architect reliable, scalable ML infrastructure using modern deployment tools including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
• Collaborate with product managers to translate ambiguous customer challenges into robust, scalable machine learning solutions
• Provide technical leadership and set quality standards for ML systems across areas with evolving ownership structures
• Partner with data scientists and engineers globally to embed models into high-performance production systems
• Mentor peers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Significant experience as an ML Engineer or Data Scientist with proven ability to write production-quality Python code
• Demonstrated ownership of productionising Generative AI or Agentic AI projects, with deep understanding of LLMs, transformers, and fine-tuning techniques
• Proven track record deploying and managing models using Docker, Kubernetes, CircleCI, or similar infrastructure tools
• Strong foundational knowledge of traditional machine learning and evaluation methodologies, balanced with focus on simplicity and measurable business outcomes
• Collaborative mindset with experience mentoring team members and solving complex, real-world problems at scale

Nice to have:

• Experience with evaluation frameworks specifically designed for Generative AI systems
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and safety techniques for deployed GenAI applications
• Experience working with strongly typed languages such as Go
