Backend Engineer (all genders) – Remote Germany

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cloud security organization based in Germany, currently building their founding engineering team. Our client is developing a real-time security platform that enforces compliance from commit to production, with a particular focus on infrastructure changes made by AI agents and automation tools.

This is an early-stage opportunity where you would join as one of the first engineers, working directly alongside the founding team to build core platform components. The role is fully remote within roughly two hours of Central European Time.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core backend services in Go that evaluate policy against cloud infrastructure changes in real time
• Take ownership of a core platform area end-to-end, from initial design through production operation
• Build simulation and enforcement systems that block or auto-remediate non-compliant changes before they reach production
• Work closely with customers to understand how your solutions perform in real-world scenarios and iterate based on feedback
• Own problems from conception through deployment and ongoing operation, seeing challenging technical work through to completion

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Strong backend engineering experience in a compiled, statically typed language (Go experience or ability to learn Go quickly)
• Deep SQL knowledge and natural thinking in relational and columnar data models
• Product mindset with opinions about what to build, not just how to build it
• Proven ability to take ambiguous problems, identify the core issue, and ship solutions
• End-to-end ownership experience from design through production operation
• Hands-on experience operating at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) including access management, networking, and failure modes
• Practical experience with Terraform or Pulumi and understanding of infrastructure-as-code behavior in production
• Active use of AI coding tools in your workflow with clear perspective on their strengths and limitations

Valuable additional experience:

• Background in cloud security, CSPM, CNAPP, or compliance frameworks (SOC 2, PCI, ISO 27001, GDPR)
• Experience building policy or rule engines
• High-availability systems, scaling, and event-driven architecture
• Production Kubernetes cluster management
• Early-stage startup or founding engineer experience

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai depends on seniority level:

• Professional level: €90,000 – €97,000 plus equity
• Senior level: €107,000 – €115,000 plus equity
