Sr. IT Engineer (Security)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Senior IT Security Engineer to lead their Security Operations Center and drive cybersecurity excellence across their infrastructure. This is a strategic leadership role based in India where you'll manage complex security incidents, design vulnerability management strategies, oversee compliance frameworks, and mentor security teams.

With 6-8+ years of advanced hands-on security experience, you'll establish detection engineering capabilities, lead incident response investigations, and drive compliance initiatives across SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and GDPR frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Security Operations Center (SOC) team and mentor junior and mid-level analysts in incident response and threat detection best practices
• Design and implement security monitoring strategies, detection engineering capabilities, and alert tuning frameworks across enterprise security platforms
• Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, runbooks, and playbooks ensuring alignment with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR, and NIS2 requirements
• Conduct security risk assessments and threat modeling; recommend security architecture improvements and infrastructure hardening initiatives
• Serve as primary liaison with compliance teams and drive audit readiness activities and evidence collection for regulatory compliance programs
• Evaluate, select, and manage security tools and vendor relationships with cost-benefit analysis and ROI assessments
• Lead incident response for complex, multi-stage security incidents with advanced root cause analysis and strategic remediation planning
• Monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to security incidents using advanced investigation techniques across endpoint, email, and vulnerability management platforms
• Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments and establish prioritization frameworks based on business context and threat landscape
• Investigate advanced threats, malware incidents, and suspected breaches with forensic analysis and detailed executive reporting
• Perform threat hunting using MITRE ATT&CK framework to identify emerging threats and proactive security gaps
• Collect, analyze, and report security metrics, KPIs, and incident trends through executive-level security dashboards and briefings

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• 6-8+ years of hands-on experience in IT Security, incident response, or security operations
• Advanced expertise in SOC operations, incident response management, and threat investigation with demonstrated ability to lead complex investigations
• Expert-level knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) including security hardening and endpoint security architecture
• Advanced understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN, proxies) and network security architecture
• Deep understanding of attack vectors, attack chains, cyber kill chain, and MITRE ATT&CK framework
• Expert hands-on experience with Sophos Central Intercept X Advanced or similar EDR solutions with ability to configure and tune advanced capabilities
• Expert experience with Windows Defender for Endpoint or other enterprise antivirus/anti-malware solutions at scale
• Expert-level knowledge of email security with deep experience in Proofpoint or similar platforms; proficiency in SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI protocols
• Expert-level experience with vulnerability scanning and management tools, preferably ManageEngine, with ability to design vulnerability management programs
• Advanced expertise in SIEM tools and log analysis with proven ability to design SIEM architectures and develop correlation rules
• Demonstrated expertise in compliance frameworks (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS2) with experience leading compliance assessments and audits
• Exceptional communication skills with ability to present technical security findings to executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders
• Proven ability to mentor and develop junior security analysts and build security teams
• Leadership experience managing security incidents and coordinating response across multiple teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or advanced security certifications
• CompTIA Security+ or equivalent foundational certifications
• Advanced scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for security automation and SIEM rule development
• Advanced cloud security expertise (Azure, AWS) with ability to design and secure cloud infrastructure
• Experience with SOAR platforms and advanced automation of incident response workflows
• Incident response leadership experience as incident commander or on critical incident response teams
• Security architecture and design expertise with experience building or redesigning security infrastructure
• Experience with GRC platforms and compliance automation
• Vendor management experience with track record of evaluating and negotiating security tool contracts
• Threat hunting expertise with advanced threat hunting methodologies
