Senior Robotics Software Engineer, Thunder

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential defense technology organization seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer for their London team. In this role, you will:

• Own feature development and software solutions deployed to end users, leading complex technical efforts from concept to deployment
• Write code to improve autonomous vehicle products and scale mission capability
• Collaborate across multiple teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality for robotic systems
• Create and analyze metrics leveraged for debugging and monitoring distributed systems
• Triage issues, root cause failures, and coordinate next-steps across engineering teams
• Work closely with vehicle hardware teams and operational subject matter experts (pilots, UAV operators) to align on requirements and iterate towards final designs
• Write and maintain core libraries and services that perform critical functions for collaborative teams of robots, including motion deconfliction and contingency management for fast-moving aerial vehicles
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers, raising the engineering bar through code review and design leadership
• Travel up to 20% of the time to build, test, and deploy capabilities in real-world environments

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Strong engineering background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
• 5+ years of professional experience with C++ or Rust programming languages
• Experience building software solutions involving significant data processing and analysis
• Track record of leading technical projects and delivering complex software systems to production
• Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases
• Desire to work on critical software with real-world impact
• Bias for action, extreme ownership, and drive to see projects through from concept to production
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active UKSV Security Clearance

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong background in Physics, Mathematics, and/or Motion Planning to inform modeling and simulation
• Experience developing and testing multi-agent autonomous systems and deploying in real-world environments
• Feature and algorithm development with understanding of behavior trees
• Experience developing software/hardware for flight systems and safety critical functionality
• Experience with distributed communication networks and message standards
• Knowledge of military systems and operational tactics
