Senior Software Developer – Java (all genders)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential hospitality technology organization seeking a Senior Software Developer - Java to join their Berlin-based engineering team. Our client operates a comprehensive commerce platform serving hospitality businesses globally, and you'll be contributing to products that power exceptional guest experiences for restaurants, bars, and hospitality venues worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Build new features and enhance the developer experience for hospitality point-of-sale and commerce products
• Balance feature development with backend modernization initiatives across the technology stack
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Support Specialists, and Platform Teams
• Participate in daily agile ceremonies and contribute solution-oriented ideas that challenge the status quo
• Advocate for code quality, maintainability, and infrastructure health
• Share knowledge and best practices to foster team growth and continuous improvement
• Design and evolve backward-compatible REST APIs for long-lived production systems

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 6+ years of expert-level Java experience in production environments, including work on large, long-lived codebases
• 4+ years of deep Spring Framework experience (IoC, MVC, Security, transactions)
• 4+ years using advanced SQL: complex queries, indexing strategies, multi-tenant data models, and schema migrations
• Strong object-oriented programming, domain modeling, and design patterns with pragmatic engineering judgment
• Proven track record designing and evolving backward-compatible REST APIs
• Strong advocate for testing with hands-on experience in automated testing frameworks
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and continuous deployment practices
• Clear English communication skills for design reviews, technical trade-offs, and cross-functional collaboration
• Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience

Preferred:

• Experience in Agile development environments
• Background in payments, fiscal compliance, or other high-correctness domains
• Familiarity with hybrid cloud and on-premise systems
• Exposure to GCP or AWS, along with Kubernetes, Docker, and related cloud solutions
• Experience with Maven multi-module projects, Jetty/WAR deployments, Redis, WebSockets, or scheduled job systems
