Assistant Controller – (Senior Accounting Consultant)

We are representing a client in the accounting services sector that is seeking an Assistant Controller / Senior Accounting Consultant to join their remote team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced accountant who wants variety, meaningful work across multiple nonprofit clients, and true schedule flexibility.

Our client operates a dedicated Client Accounting Services practice focused year-round on supporting organizations with everything from month-end close to strategic planning. You'll work directly with nonprofit clients, serving as a trusted advisor and ensuring they have the financial insights they need to thrive.

Location: Fully Remote (Eastern Time Zone preferred)
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time

Responsibilities

• Lead or support full-accrual month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
• Prepare and deliver financial reports for multiple client engagements
• Analyze and clean up general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Assist clients with cash flow management, budget preparation, annual planning, and financial disclosures
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building strong relationships and understanding their unique needs
• Coordinate with external auditors and other professional partners on behalf of clients
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and recommend system upgrades or implementations
• Supervise and mentor junior staff members as needed

What We're Looking For

• Associate's degree in Accounting required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
• 4+ years of accounting experience with exposure to nonprofit organizations, either in industry or public accounting
• Solid understanding of month-end close procedures and account reconciliation best practices
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, and Bill.com strongly preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client service mindset
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously and prioritize effectively
• CPA or CMA certification is a plus
• Must be comfortable working remotely in the Eastern Time Zone

Pay

The employer has indicated a base salary range of $72,000–$95,000 depending on experience, with additional discretionary bonus opportunities. Compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
