OpenStack Engineering Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization in their search for an OpenStack Engineering Manager. This is a globally remote position where you will lead a distributed engineering team responsible for managing cloud infrastructure and delivering enterprise-grade managed services.

In this role, you will manage engineers who oversee day-to-day operations of customer environments, including OpenStack deployments, Kubernetes clusters, and other distributed systems. You'll balance service delivery, team development, and operational excellence while collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders across the globe.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow an engineering team to optimize both development velocity and operational quality
• Identify and track team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes
• Represent the team with stakeholders, customers, and external partners
• Ensure team focus on priorities, milestones, and service level agreements
• Deliver consistent, high-quality managed services to customer deployments worldwide
• Drive continuous improvement in service operations and product development
• Travel approximately 20% or less for team meetings and customer engagements

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a technology field
• Proven track record in software delivery using Python, Go, C, C++, Java, or similar languages, and/or managing operations teams
• Demonstrated experience with OpenStack in production environments
• Strong commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality
• Experience with Linux system administration; Ubuntu/Debian knowledge is a plus
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across distributed teams
• Experience with agile software development methodologies
• Proven ability to manage distributed, remote teams effectively
• Technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems and cloud topologies
