Senior DevOps Engineer

About the Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization in the food delivery and logistics sector, seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their Infrastructure team in London. This role sits at the heart of platform engineering, building the systems and tooling that enable product teams to develop, ship, and operate software at global scale.

You'll own foundational compute and cloud components—Kubernetes clusters, cloud infrastructure, networking, and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks—that engineering teams rely on daily. This position balances hands-on operational ownership with production-quality code development to automate, scale, and remove friction from core infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of complex infrastructure initiatives spanning Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure (AWS), networking, and IaC frameworks, making most technical decisions independently
• Design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable systems in AWS, coordinating cross-cutting initiatives with other platform teams
• Build and maintain self-service tooling, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks that allow engineering teams to provision environments safely and consistently
• Serve as first responder during on-call rotations for core infrastructure, lead root cause analysis, and drive incident mitigation
• Drive team-wide quality objectives around reliability, operational readiness (alerting, dashboards, runbooks), and developer productivity tooling
• Unblock engineering teams through code and design reviews, proactive support, and knowledge sharing via documentation and internal talks
• Break down initiatives into executable work, identify dependencies, provide accurate estimates, and document technical decisions
• Act as a technical role model by providing constructive feedback, recognizing contributions, and supporting hiring efforts
• Collaborate with platform teams across a global engineering organization to align on shared standards and roadmap priorities

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Proven track record owning complex technical initiatives end-to-end, contributing to architecture-level decisions
• Deep hands-on expertise operating Kubernetes and container orchestration in production, including cluster scaling, upgrades, and multi-tenancy
• Strong experience with AWS, including networking, IAM, account structuring, and cost management
• Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred) and building provisioning frameworks other engineers depend on
• Solid software engineering skills (Go, Python, or similar) applied to internal tooling and automation, beyond operational scripting
• Broad knowledge of supportive technologies such as Kafka, gRPC, Postgres/MongoDB, Redis, and CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions)
• Strong understanding of SRE principles: incident response, fault-tolerant architecture, and capacity planning
• Experience mentoring engineers through code/design reviews, knowledge sharing, or driving best practices
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with many engineering teams at global scale

Preferred:

• Experience with GitOps tooling (Argo CD, Flux), progressive delivery, or service mesh technologies
• Experience operating multi-cluster or multi-region Kubernetes environments at scale
• GCP exposure, particularly compute and networking
• Familiarity with cloud cost optimization/FinOps practices for Kubernetes workloads
• Experience contributing to multi-organization infrastructure unification efforts
• Contributions to open-source infrastructure or platform engineering projects, especially in the CNCF ecosystem
